Yoav asked:
Are there stories about AI that is an idiot: meaning low intelligence, but very good in certain tasks (like calculations, for example?)
Heather Hile answered:
All Systems Red by Martha Wells might be close to what you are thinking. It’s about an android programmed as a security guard. But the company that owns it is cheap, so it only has the basic knowledge to get the job done. The only reason this one starts to learn new things is because it hacks the system.

Portal 2: Wheatley is an Artificial Intelligence created for the sole purpose of injecting stupid ideas into a different, much more dangerous AI for the purpose of making it dumber. He demonstrates some ability at analyzing things in hindsight, but seems incapable of any form of foresight. For instance, he can recognize that he often makes mistakes when setting traps, and can thus realize that he should have backups, but he can’t ever stop making mistakes, and can’t ever predict if his supposed failsafes interact with the original trap in ways that would make a previously inescapable trap obviously escapable.
